I play in bi-weekly tournament locally (home game) that usually has around 35 runners. About 3 months ago we started a points system for placing in the tournaments and based upon your position in points at the end, you can win a seat to the Borgata Poker Open. The original plan was 1 seat to a $1200'ish buyin and 1 or 2 (don't remember) $500'ish buyins. The money strangely enough is coming from the cash games that take place after the tournies (and a weekly game that runs on Mondays also). So far there have been 60+ players that have participated. A few weeks back the guy running it told everyone that there may be as many as 5 or even 6 seats awarded (due to $$). The plan was to award the points leader the big seat and the next seats would go to the top finishers in a 10man sng ($110 entry for that when usually we play mostly $60's, so that may or may not be to help with expenses, don't know).
Anyway whether or not I win a seat (not looking likely for 1st anyway, so probably have to win at the sng), I'm going even if I have to buyin direct. I've been bitten by the live game bug for sanctioned events. Obviously I've only played the one trip in multiple events, but haven't been able to get back to a sanctioned live event and I'm dying to. Would have loved to played in this WSOP $1500 or $2k buyin events, but that is seriously harsh on my bankroll. I can definitely chalk up a $500 or 2 buyin (not sure how many of these they run) at a chance for a nice payday where live players are pretty bad (for one they fold too much), but no more than that. Anyway, sorry for the long story, but my question for you guys is do you think any of you might attend? I'd love to meet some of you and I think it would be a good place to do so. If you have any vacation plans/money, treat it as a vacation and it's kind of paid for without any risk to your bankroll if you were going to vacation anyway. Hell, you may even be able to win your buyin back after or even before the tournament on the cash tables as they are really soft (play solid abc or whatever you feel comfortable with). Anyway, anyone interested in a meet up? I'll try and remember to bring my walker. You can respond in this thread or PM me. The Borgata Poker Open is from September 14-18 (I think). |

Hey Rock do you know if they have any Omaha H/L events during this? and also do they spread H/L on the cash tables and what limits? I am currently playing very very little Holdem as in the last few months it has seriously pissed me off

Also, as far as cash games I'm sure if anywhere had Omaha it would be the borgat, maybe others but not sure. I'll check the borgata web site and post in a minute on that also. |

Checked last years 2007 event and it was only NLHE and fixed limit, not sure with surgence of Omaha if that may change this year especially as WSOP really stepped up the mixed games this year. As have things like the WCOOP or Full Tilts series (forgot what that's called), so it may effect the WPT scheduling this year.
Schedule is definitely Sep 8-25. Just went to Borgata's website and they don't even mention the ring games. I remember they had a wide variety of games, lots of various levels of NLHE and LHE, pretty sure there was Omaha, nothing an e-mail or phone call probably can check into, if you want to go that route. Maybe I'm just missing it on there site...okay just googled Atlantic City omaha cash and someones blog came up and they definitely mention H/L limit, so I'm sure they have both. I think they even have stud. Makes me kind of curious now how soft live omaha is, because most probably don't have a clue. |

thats what ive noticed around here in Michigan the games are soooo soft and they do a full kill so you can really rape the players but the casinos here have trouble filling the table except on Fri and Sat's. I can imagine that it would be a awesome extremely soft game at an event such as this.....esp. with some players just trying to get into a game while they wait for thier holdem seat to open up
I will talk to the wifey tom. and see what I can put together and maybe try to confirm the games and such there at Borgata.

Their Summer Poker Open (which started today) has one Stud event and the rest are limit and no limit events. If that is any indication.

Oh, forgot something about the home game tournaments, the top 9 finishers behind the points leader will be in the sng, and then 1 seat drawing randomly from the remainder will be the 10th. I think it's pretty cool (everyone conceivably has a shot, not sure if their is a requirement for # of events played for that random seat, because I'm sure there have been a few one time shows). Might give you guys an idea about setting up something like this in the future.

Meat, I wasn't even aware they had a summer one too that ran during the WSOP. Cool beans. I would definitely have wanted to see if I could get off for this, oh well, least it gives me a few more months to hone my game.

Didn't realize this was in AC at the Borgata. Excellent. You guys are a lot better web surfers then me, foh suh! Nice!!! Did you notice they had a turbo tournament too. Too lazy to check out the blind length, but this would definitely be one I would skip. Bet you the turbo regular high stakes sng'ers would love this one though. |

Okay they just came out with the schedule last week. You can find it here:
-http://www.theborgata.com/email/press/poker/em_pr071008/em_071008.pdf I'll probably play 2 or 3 event between the 8th & 16th. In that time frame there are 5 NLHE events ranging from $350 to $560. I hope that some of you can make it. |

Blah. Borgata and WCOOP are pretty much the same days. Foxwoods events in October look just a juicy though.
