Wonderful, relaxing vacation
Dustin Jun 26, 2009
This hotel is probably the best hotel in Jamaica. After all, it is the Ritz. Let me start with all of the components of the ... stay. Beach -- the beach here is nice, albeit small, and definitely wear water shoes (rocks). The sunsets are great to take pictures during, and the hotel provides floats for one to lounge around on in a cordoned off area of the ocean. Pool -- The pool is large and has a very nice sitting area around it. No one goes at night really, so that is a good time to go (there really isn't anything else to do at night besides eat anyhow). The lounge chairs and area around the pool is first-rate, and the concierge follows you when you step into the pool grounds to the chairs you pick and then puts towels over them and makes a head pillow out of the towel you will dry off with out of the pool. You can also enjoy lunch from Mango's and order drinks from the various servers that come around poolside. Food -- I'm not sure what restaurant(s) one other reviewer ate at while here, but we went to EVERY restaurant and the food was magnificent. Expect to pay for it, however. Mango's has the mixed grill (includes Mahi-Mahi, a 4 oz. Steak, Jerk Sausage and Shrimp) for $47, and I would highly recommend it. Horizon's has an awesome dinner buffet, and includes a massive salad bar, dessert bar, and fried banana split bar. Expect to pay $45 per person for the buffet. And yes, a hamburger at Mango's is $20, but it's worth the price because it is a great burger. The Jerk Center is on the beach and has good food, but a very small selection. We dined at Mango's for lunch most days. All in all, the food is great, but definitely quantum meruit (you get what you pay for). Room -- 400 thread-count sheets, a fully stocked mini-bar (you'll pay for this too), and a glass shower are just the highlights of a very nicely appointed guestroom. Leisure -- The Spa at the Ritz is very nice, and the ladies/gentlemen's lounges can be used even without a spa purchase, and I used them several times during the week. They have a steam room, dry sauna, cold plunge, and showers in the men's lounge along with teas and lemonade in the sitting room. Additionally, the Cohoba Lounge was a great place to unwind at the end of the day and have a drink, and the drinks there are very good. Recreation -- The hotel provides hobie cat sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking, yoga/fitness classes, and much, much more for free (you pay the resort fee for this). Staff/Service -- I can't say enough about the service on my trip. I was never told "no" the entire time except for in the Jamaican phrase "No problem mon." I always got what I asked for in a more than timely fashion. When you call the front desk, you are greeted by name and the staff caters to your every need. The restaurant staff/servers are no different and go out of their way to make sure your dining experience is first-class. All in all, this was an excellent hotel/vacation experience and I will definitely return. But, remember you are staying at the Ritz, so don't complain about prices because you definitely will have a vacation you won't forget.

Kimmy Jun 22, 2009
The resort is beautiful. Our room was very clean. The decor was wonderful. It is a bit far from the hip strip though. We ate ... at two of the resort restaurants. The food was ok. Nothing to do flips about. The beach area was lovely but rocky. The resort staff was AWESOME!! My daughter celebrated her birthday while we were there and a staff member went out of her way to make her birthday special.

The hotel was very nice and in a great location. The room was nice, clean, and just as I expected. The beach area is quite ... and not too crowded which made it very peaceful. The staff provided excellent service! If you don't get a meal plan the food can be pretty expensive though.

The personalized greetings with each staff member made for such a treat. From being welcomed with a glass of champagne to ... personalized dinner choices, this was the nicest place I have ever stayed. If this is the manner in which all Ritz-Carlton properties function, I will look into staying at the Ritz again. The trip was a dream come true. Only wish we could have stayed longer.

loved our stay
rr May 10, 2009
We loved our stay at this hotel I would recommend it to anybody. The two downfalls were the $25 (each way) taxi to get to ... downtown and back and the lack of dining choices on site. Fortunately you will not want to spend much time downtown and many resteraunts will come pick you up in a shuttle to take you to dine with them (something we did not know until the last day). The staff was great the rooms were clean. There is also a water activity area with snorkel and other water toys. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to go back again.

We loved the friendly staff. The pool was beautiful. The restaurants were way too expensive and the food was terrible. To go ... out of the resort and eat was better but the cost of the cabs to go anywhere was so expensive as well. Get to know a cab driver and make your own arrangements to airport or tours. It will always be much cheaper than going through hotel. Will never go here again.

quiet getaway
Busy Bee May 3, 2009
While at the hotel all we did was lay on the beach and relax. It was a lovely time. The beach is not huge but there are more ... than enough lounge chairs. The water is warm, there were some good sized waves at times and the constant breeze kept us from getting too hot. The pool was more crowded than the beach and much more of a family spot. The servers on the beach and at the restaurants as well as the shuttle drivers were incredibly friendly and accommodating in every way. The food was decent but really nothing all that special. Drink on the other hand were delicious. Overall it was a great trip, we would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing getaway.

If you need a break from the resort, take a cab to the "hip strip" area. There are a lot of little shops and places to eat. There is a Margaritaville restaurant which was a ton of fun. There is a water slide from the second floor of the restaurant into the ocean. There are also two water trampolines and inner tubes everywhere.

Beautiful Hotel - Food very expensive
April the planner May 2, 2009
The hotel was beautiful, it looked just like it did on the website. The location wasn't bad but you needed to take a taxi ... into the city which was costly. My only problems with the hotel was that the food was very expensive, I mean breakfast cost $65 and that is not including tipping (which is another pain). Everyone has to be tipped. You end up spending most of your money on food and tipping. Also the hotel has the smallest and most limited gift shop I've ever seen in such a luxury hotel. Don't expect to pick up any neat gifts there, you will definitely have to leave the hotel for that.
Traveler type: Couples
Be careful of taxi services they can over charge. Also Jamaica has its own money so be mindful of the exchange rate.

I had a fabulous time while at the Rose Hall Ritz Carlton. I went for the views and some rest and relaxation. I left ... Jamaica feeling a sense of accomplishment as the entire hotel staff made me feel welcomed in my home away from home. The service and personal attention I received was phenomenal.
Traveler type: Single
The Rose Hall area is not the area for shopping unless you want to purchase high end merchandise. I ventured out to a place where the locals shop but it was one location that reminded me of a converted convenience store. It carried a variety of sundries and goods, including coffee and rum and the manager was very warm and friendly towards me. Forget about shopping here and go for the peace and tranquility that the resort offers as well as the magnificent views from atop of the golf courses.
