The check in and check out processes were very slow. The room key frequently needed resetting. Bed linens did not fit the ... king size bed well and so kept rumpling up during the night. In Need of Remodeling
Anonymous, Chicago Jul 9, 2008
The Jamaica Grande has a great location. However the hotel is in serious need of remodeling. The rooms have not been ... remodeled in quite sometime. The hotel staff was somewhat apathetic and did not pay attention to detail. We had to have the room key programmed several times which was no fun. There have been some changes in the rules which seemed not to benefit guests.

Great Resort for Fun
Ricardo, New York, NY Feb 20, 2008
This hotel is minutes from the pier, so all of the cruise ships are visible from the oceanview rooms. The resort is very ... clean. The staff extremely friendly and corteous. The food was delicious and there were plenty of dinning options, from Italian to Jamaican cusines. The resort rivals the cruises ship experiences that I have had. The only dissapointing aspect of this resort was the check-in process. It was very long, however the check-out was smooth and efficient. I give this hotel a 8.5 out of 10.
The resort has plenty of water activities from non-motorized to motorized. Everything is in walking distance. Shuttles to Margaritaville are also a plus.

Great location, but not much else to offer
Anonymous, New York, NY Aug 30, 2007
The Sunset Jamaica Grande leaves alot to be desired in the area of customer service. The check-in took too long, more than ... an hour. They were overbooked and I was relocated down the street to a 2 star hotel for the first night of my stay. There was live music each night and it could be heard in my room on the 14th floor. The food was mediocre to say the least, not much of a selection at the buffet. It was not a good value for the money spent. I ended up spending money on meals at local eateries outside of the resort. I did not enjoy my stay at this resort.
Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville is a 10- 15 minute walk from the hotel. I enjoyed food and drinks while I was there.

The hotel provided wonderful entertainment choices for all age groups. The outdoor activites, with numberous pools, and ... water sports activities were the most enjoyable features for my particular group. However, it was noted that something was always being offered for every age group. It reminded me of being on a Cruise ship.

EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED
Anonymous Jul 6, 2007
I was very dissatisfied with my stay at the Sunset Jamaica Grande. The check-in process is not too welcoming, they solicite ... hotel services right in the lobby, very aggressively. The rooms are small and not up-to-date, especially the bathroom. The food is below average, you will enjoy it if you like eating the same foods all week. There was nothing special about the taste or the appeal of buffet. I was hungry all week. Reservations for the specialty restaurants are very hard to get. Then you have to hope guest services enter your reservations correctly for the restaurant that you wanted, so please double check your voucher once they give it to you. Overall, in opinion customer service was extremely poor. Also, should you have any complaints while you're staying there, hotel management is not the easiest to interact with. I left the resort feeling very depressed and disappointed.I would not recommend this hotel to my friends or family nor would I stay there again.
The food on the strip outside the resort is excellent. I went to a seaside cafe called Andy's about 15 minutes away and loved it.

It was our first travel to Jamaica. Everything was nice. At the hotel everything went very smooth, all the employees very ... attentive and friendly. This hotel was built some years ago but everything work properly and everything very clean. The food was excellent. We think that Jamaica is more expensive that other places like CanCun. For us Cancun is far bether. We spend around one full day traveling from Dallas Fort Worth until get our hotel at Montego Bay. Since we wake up really early until we got our hotel was around 14 hours. The return was abut the same. Probably you should count like two days spent going and returning if you reside in USA While traveling in Jamaica towards our hotel we saw many small stores on the main street with iron or steel bars closing all the doors and windows. We tought it was to avoid some kind of robberies, so we decided to stay inside our hotel all the time. We only left the hotel to get back to US This year we decided to go first to Jamaica by first time, and next day we went to Cancun since we already know it very good and now we know it is a very superior place, less expensive and we need less than half day to get there. We recommend Jamaica, but other places are better.
We only did some shopping at the hotel store

Very Very Wonderful Resort
Hyacinth May 29, 2007
The Sunset Jamaica Grande is an EXCELLENT HOTEL. The view from our renovated room (north tower 10th fl) was truely ... breathtaking. You literally see why the hotel is called SUNSET! The bathroom was a bright clean white. The hotel location is ideal for those who wish to go to Margaritaville and the World Famous Dunns River Falls. Also very close to Walkerswood Tour, for the Jerk Food fanatic. The hotel dining at Jamalicous & the Italian Restaurant was truly 5-star. The entire hotel staff was EXCELLENT! Despite the rain on & off (which I dont see why some blame the weather on the hotel) during our 4 day stay, the hotel offered so much to do. Check in was swift & everyone is more than ready to ensure you enjoy your stay. Day 1 - enjoyed the hotel grounds, mini-casino; nightclub; Dinner @ Ginger Lilly; nightcap. Day 2 - swimming; water slides; hot tub; paddleboat; games by the pool; live concert; dinner @ buffet under the sunset. Day 3 - spa; venture out in-town; Dunns River; Hot tub; Dinner @ La Diva Day 4 - breakfast & ck out

Not such a great deal...
Anonymous, Rochester, NY Apr 29, 2007
Jamaica Grande was not that great of a deal for the money. Though we go a great deal on this newly renovated hotel, it turned ... out to be only partially renovated and our room did not look like it was updated at all. The tiles were cracked in the bathroom and it looked dirty even when it had been cleaned. It was small and looked very outdated. The staff assured us that our room was recently upgraded but this was just not the case and I was very dissapointed with it. The location was very far from the airport (50 miles) and took us 3 1/2 hours on a tour bus to get there. Next time we will stay closer to the airport side because the roads in Jamaica are poor and it takes a very long time to travel the island. There was also a lot of noise because of the construction going on throughout the hotel. The staff was hit or miss- some were very friendly and approachable and others wouldn't even look you in the eyes when you asked them a question. I liked that the pools were large and that the hotel was right on the ocean. This is probably the case at other hotels in Jamaica though. Overall, it was a cheap hotel and it showed with the room we stayed in and the fact that there was constant construction throughout the hotel and noise.

Pools are great...but not much else
Michael Mar 13, 2007
The Sunset Jamaica Grande was dissapointing. The beach front cabbanas were not in great shape. bathrooms in disrepair and A/C ... in our traveling companions room took 3 days to fix even though it was leaking on everything. The pools were nice as were most bartenders. However the ala carte restaurants were virtually unable to get into and buffet was only so so the wait staff at the buffet also was very rude. To get into a ala carte restaurant you could only make reservations 2 days in advance and taking of reservations started at 7:00 am I did get resevations to 1 restaurant by getting in line for resv. at 6:30 am however got there at 7:55 am the next day to make resv. at another restaurant for the following night and all were booked up. We had people get moved into rooms on both sides of us because of issues they had in the newly renovated north and south towers I would not recommend this hotel.
