I'm heading up to Brisbane for a conference soon, staying in the CBD without a car. I'm hoping I can sneak away from the conference to indulge my artistic whims every now and then can anyone suggest some good galleries, art shops, book stores within walking distance of CBD |

Thanks Brainless, that's a great list
Does anyone know how long it takes to drive to Main Beach from Brisbane? We'll be hiring a car to go to Noosa for a few days after the conference and I know it's in the opposite direction, but I'd like to go and see Geoffrey Proud's work at Schubert if it's not too far? |

| A friend of a friend owns this gallery http://www.artzdome.com/about.html, don't even know if it's working yet, from the site it's looking a bit of a non-event, or a neglected site, but the space looks great in the pics. I'm not reccommending a visit, but if you stumble across it I'd be curious to know. Hire basis, no commission. Friend's actually down from Brisbane ATM I'm seeing her tonight so I'll quiz her. |

if you're in the valley on a wednesday in the afternoon, visiting Phillip Bacon and Jan Murphy, come and visit me at the Institute of Modern art. I volunteer there at the desk |

and thank you suebee, I've popped your recommendations on my list | It's one of those rare occasions I get to go out to a gig, she photographs bands and her partner is in a touring band, (her site in my links page) I'm sure I won't remember gallery names said in a loud room, but shes down for a few days at least, so I'll ask about ones she likes, might be more likely photography. |

thanks Simon, could you also ask her about good places to eat in the CBD - the conference is putting on lunch but we'll be looking for somewhere to go in the evenings |

| I know nothing about Brisbane, the only time I've been was a job in the CBD, the installation went so smoothly we ended up with hours to kill before our flight, so we walked over the bridge to the art gallery, (the big one) then spent a few hours eating and drinking in the Belgian beer cafe, yummy food and beer. When are you going? |
