AIA Tampa Bay invites all architects and intern architects to meet with Stanley Saitowitz, the architect selected to design the new Tampa Museum of Art.

This is an exclusive opportunity for the design community to share ideas about the new museum design and learn about Saitowitz's philosophies and experience, – this is not a public forum.

AIA TB Sketch-Up Class
second round of two part series

Back by popular demand, AIA Tampa Bay presents a second round of a two part series on Google Sketch-Up. Ease your anxieties about modeling programs and learn from the next generation of architects about the latest 3D program at AIA Tampa Bay's Sketch-Up Class.

Taught by second-year USF SACD graduate students, the two part program will teach Google Sketch-Up, a new, free and user friendly 3D modeling program that allows users to create detailed 3D projects. Finished projects can be placed anywhere on Google Earth, posted, shared and printed as hard copies. What a great resources to share with your clients!

Join AIA Tampa Bay as we kick off our first monthly luncheon of 2007! This February, the AIA TB Food 4 Thought series presents Louis E. Miller, Executive Director of Tampa International Airport.

Miller will discuss Tampa's air service designation and the airport's growth in daily departure schedules and destinations. His presentation will include an in-depth analysis of the development of the future North Terminal Project and October 2015 scheduled completion.

Miller has received multiple honors and awards during his 11 year tenure at TIA. In 2006 Miller was honored twice, first by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners for his significant role in improving government through leadership and vision, and then again by Southwest Airlines for being "more than just a good neighbor, he is a master builder."

architect john howey, faia:
a retrospective

The exhibition, Architect John Howey, FAIA: A Retrospective is a collection of selected architectural photography, drawings and models chronicling Howey’s forty-year career in Florida and North Carolina. As a recipient of more than forty professional design awards, Howey’s projects fuse contemporary modern architecture principals with the lifestyle, culture and landscape of Florida creating a unique regional style that is intrinsically Florida.

The exhibition is an accompaniment to Howey’s recently published book, John Howey & Associates: Selected and Current Works, a visual anthology of photographs and drawings encompassing a myriad of Howey’s projects including residential, public and private, historic preservation, interior design and planning.

All members, friends and family are invited to get the first glimpse of the exhibition at Gallery AIA's Opening Reception and Book Signing. Guests at the Opening Reception will have the opportunity to purchase Howey's book and have him sign it. Free beer, wine, soft drinks and appetizers.

2nd Annual Smart Sustainable Tampa Bay
february 8th and 9th in St. Pete

AIA Tampa Bay encourages all design professionals to participate in the 2nd Annual Smart Sustainable Tampa Bay program. Presented by the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, the program brings together the leading green design and sustainability experts in North America.

Along with local government and business leaders, participants will learn how to use the latest in green building and sustainable development to create economic, environmental and social advantages for the future of the Tampa Bay region.

The two day program begins on Thursday, February 8th with Build Green Everyone Profits, a dinner and expert panel from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Raddisson at Feathersound. Then Friday, February 9th hear from experts at the Keynote Speaker Sessions at St. Petersburg College – EpiCenter from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. See full schedule and speaker description.

International Builder's Show
February 7th-10th, orlando
Hosted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the 2007 International Builder’s Show will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida on February 7-10.

The annual light construction trade show and exhibition will have over 1,900 leading suppliers representing 300 industry categories, covering over a million net square feet of exhibition space.

The 2007 International Builders’ Show is not open to the general public. Building industry professionals and their affiliates throughout the housing trades are welcome to register beginning on Sunday, February 4th at www.buildershow.com.
