DETROIT (AP) The United Auto Workers union says employees at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut have voted to join the union.
The dealers held a vote Saturday after the Mashantucket Pequots tribe that runs the casino failed to persuade the National Labor Relations Board to block it. The Detroit-based UAW says the vote was about 60% in favor of unionization. It says the bargaining unit includes about 2,600 dealers at Foxwoods. The union already represents about 6,000 gambling employees in Detroit; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Newport, Rhode Island. Casino president John O'Brien says the dealers are currently among the highest paid employees in the state, with average annual earnings between $45,000 and $50,000.
