NVIDIA's new Intel Core 2 Duo chipset is apparently a great overclocker - sources have reported that up to (and possibly beyond) 1200 MHz on the memory is possible with this chipset.
Perhaps this will be the chipset to have for serious C2D overclocking, but there is one more player - ATI's RD600.
Similarly to ATI's chipset, Nforce 680i supports 3 PCI Express slots, two for graphic cards and one for physics.

is there any difference between the 680 and the 590 or is it just a renamed 590 for the intel platform?
The 590 will be going away, the 680i has improved in several areas. It speced to have 3 PCI-E x16 slots, and can handle much higher clock speeds, which is great for anyone that want to overclock.
I don't expect the RD600 to be much of a player in the Intel world, especially with DFI being the only real motherboard manufacture using it.
