This years conference is like none weve ever had before. Its incredible the amount of people from ALL OVER THE COUNTRY that are coming to take part! But please come with a sense of humor and realistic expectations, you may find your workshop full or no room in the Kozol address, etc. Sorry!
LOCATION: Please note location change. The conference will take place at Ben Franklin Campus (home to Gateway and KIPP Schools): 1430 Scott Street, San Francisco. The school is accessible by the following bus lines: 38 Geary, 22 Fillmore and 24 Divisadero. PARKING: There is parking in the lot at Ben Franklin Campus. Please consider public transportation! The student government will be collecting $5 per parked car. This money will go directly to benefit student groups at the school.
REGISTRATION and WORKSHOPS: Workshops sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 8:30am for you to come in and register. When the workshops are filled, they will be closed and the list of names will be taken to the room to ensure the people signed up are able to attend. FOOD: Bagels and pastries will be available in the morning, and a vegetarian lunch will be served the lunch break. All food is free of charge. We welcome donations and are hoping to raise enough money to break even and continue to present future events. 9:40-10:40am Opening, Youth Presenters and Keynote Address: Jeff Duncan-Andrade, Assistant Professor in Raza Studies and the College of Education, Co-Director of the Educational Equity Initiative at San Francisco State Universitys Cesar Chavez Institute, 11th grade Sociology of Education teacher at East Oakland Community High School.
10:45-12:30am Morning Workshops*
12:30-1:30pm Lunch (free and on-site) Resource faire at this time with booths by Rethinking Schools and many local organizations!
1:45-3:30pm Afternoon Workshops*
3:45-4:30pm Ending Address: Jonathan Kozol, author.
JONATHAN KOZOLS ADDRESS: We will accommodate as many people as possible for Jonathan Kozols address. For those who arrive during the morning registration period (9-9:30am), you will be given first priority on entrance into the auditorium to hear Kozol at 3:45pm. After this group has entered, priority will be given to conference participants who arrive for the afternoon workshops (1:00-1:30pm). People arriving after this time will be given a third priority.
There will be a book signing from 4:30-5:30pm.

Presented by Mind Power Collective will present this event, Friday, October 12th, 2007 from 5-8pm, join T4SJ and Mind Power Collective for an evening of music, dance and good vibes the night before the conference at El Rio 3158 Mission Street @ Cesar Chavez Street with the soulful sounds of DJ Sake One and Otis Stone playing funk, hip hop, reggae and soul. Live performances by Ariel Luckey among others...
