In a mixed Exalt game, the lone black guy in our group was a Black Panther totem. It took him a few sessions to get what was so funny, then he had a good laugh too.
I played a Sea Otter totem for a Lunars game set in the West. Dex-heavy, forgot his gifts exactly, but he was a blast to play (EDIT: I think he had the gifts & charms necessary for second level moonsilver claws, as well as some added dex and dodge stuff. He was a sneaky one!). Same game had a sea bird totem of some kind, and a few others that for the life of me I can't remember.

So many reasons there.

Well my latest PbP Lunar had a Great Terror as her totem form, didn't see much need for DBT with that.

The only Lunar I've statted up is a jackal No Moon, inspired not by Egyptiana (which I imagine is the default for such things) but by the jackal tribes -- he was a doctor who got leprosy or something, was exiled, Exalted, and adopted a tribe of fellow plague-ridden exiles and fixed them up; he had enough DBT for the regen gifts, and Savage Moonsilver Talons in a nod to the fact that yeah, okay, probably he'd need to do some killing at some point. However, building a Lunar healer is incredibly frustrating, so much so I wonder if it wouldn't be practical to rebuild this character as a Solar with a similar anima banner, and the Solar Medicine tree is nothing to write home about either. I've never played him, but his personality is influenced by Mossy Lawn from Night Watch, which wouldn't jive well with the Silver Pact anyway.
The Great Terror, incidentally my campaign also has a Lunar with that as his totem, is from creatures of the Wyld. The important stats are its strength and stamina, both over 9.
