In Africa, civil wars are not uncommon, and Mao in Chad is no exception. In the initial stages of the First Tiberium War, two villages in Mao were engaged in a ruthless civil war, and one of them was allied with the Brotherhood of Nod. In order to quell the disorder and put an end to hostilities, UNGDI moved a peacekeeping force into the area and attempted to settle the matters.
However, as they entered the Nod friendly village, the denizens treated them with resentment and open hostility, and did not stop fighting the other village. GDI attempted to forcibly stop them, but the villagers opened fire and GDI peacekeepers returned it in self defence.
The Brotherhood then moved a strike force in the area, consisting of a squad of minigunners, rocket infantry, a few Chenowths and recon bikes, which supplemented the firepower of the villagers, eradicated the GDI presence in the village and proceeded to invade and raze the opposing village.
The attack was later disguised as a GDI terrorist strike and as such broadcasted to the mass media.
