Proceedings (023)
- Brand: see - SVG open format (scalable vector graphic) (053)
- Brand: big NICS (National Infrastructure for Community Statistics) meeting next Wednesday (2004.08.11); could help present the SOFI system at that meeting (054)
- Peter to do a demo for Brand and Susan on the SOFI system and the prototype (one or two between now and next Wed). (055)
- Brand: we could possibly present, at that NICS meeting: (056)
- a cwe/wiki demo (057)
- intro to SOFI system (058)
- proposal for a cwe workshop (059)
- Brand: the National System of Indicators (NSI) should be interested (060)
- people from GAO, National Academy, ... (061)
- most of these people will also be at the NICS meeting (062)
Session-1: Introduction to the SOFI System (087)
Fri 2004.08.06 11:00am ~ 2:30pm EDT (088)
- Agenda: walk-through on the (089)
- SOFI and its spreadsheet implementation (090)
- SOFI System vision (091)
- SOFI System architecture (092)
- SOFI System Phase-1 prototype (093)
- state of the SOFI System project (094)
- where do we go from here? (095)
- Brand's looking for a presentation with (081)
- what were the innovations (082)
- who are the innovators (083)
- who are the contributors (how much cummulative time does that entail) (084)
- Useful references to build up a short introductory presentation: (085)
- Brand: this is probably more advanced than what most people are looking for immediately ... (also see below on further discussion). (0121)
- given the above, we could probably do a much shorter call for session-2. Let's assume our Monday (2004.08.09 1:00pm EDT) call will only be 15~30 minutes (instead of 2 hours.) --ppy / 2004.08.06 10:54am PDT (0106)
Session-2: SOFI System discussion - applicability in the eGov context (0117)
Mon 2004.08.09 1:00 ~ 1:30pm EDT (0118)
- part of the following discussion started towards the end of session-1 and is more filly discussed in session-2 (0119)
- where do we go from here? (097)
- Brand: this is probably more advanced than what most people are looking for immediately. (098)
- Susan: need to find the connector people who are familiar with both the "futurists" and "government" worlds to show this to (0101)
- Susan suggests that we explore on the recent WFS attendee list to find such people (0112)
- Ted mentioned Nancy Donovan at GAO as a possible contact (0115)
- Brand would also talk to Dave Rejeski to explore possibilities, possibly adapting some sdi data in a demo (Brand and Dave used to work in the same group at EPA) (0113)
- Let's wait till we see more clearly (from the 2004.08.12 NICS meeting) what these people need, before we decide on how best to approach this. (0102)
- Peter: (0103)
- could/should possibly recast this as a more generic Strategic Decision and Policy support tool, rather than a futures research tool (this is actually already in Ted's original conception of the approach) (0104)
- note that, unlike the CWE (which is production ready), this is a project awaiting to happen. Anyone who start supporting it will still have to wait at least 6-12 months for the R&D work, before they can get a tool to use. (0105)
- Ted: let us try to pull the potentially interested parties together and do a workshop. (0122)
- suggested that we might explore if Dave and the Wilson Institute might want to take the lead to do this workshop. (0114)
